It felt just like old times when the two of them sat together on the couch. Well, old times before Brittany had turned to drugs. “Day by day.” Brittany repeated. She liked that. The blonde didn’t know exactly how things were going to be now that she was back to her old life, so taking things one step at a time seemed to be the best option. A small smile spread across Brittany’s lips when she heard Cat and Lord Tubbington meow. It had been so long since she had seen her cats. She was so happy to see them.
"Hi guys!" Brittany said as she got up and followed Santana when she fed the cats. She patted them both on the head and said "I missed both of you too." chuckling lightly. She watched Santana feed them and returned over to the couch and plopped down happy to be back. When Santana straddled her, Brittany immediately wrapped her arms around Santana’s waist and pulled her a little closer. "I missed you too…" Brittany whispered. "D…Don’t let me go…" She said as she held onto her fiancee tighter. She didn’t want to go back to drugs ever again. It was the worst experience in her life. "You’re all I need." Brittany said quietly. "Nothing else."
Santana sucked in a shuddering breath, being so close to Brittany again making her feel dizzy. The slender arms that wrapped around her waist anchored her to her spot on the couch, and her hands fisted in Brittan’ys hair as she buried her face in the blonde’s neck. ”Never,” she said in response, littering every inch of Brittany’s neck that she could reach with kisses. She could feel the tears stinging her eyes as she finally allowed the last few months to unload, her entire body shaking as she trailed her mouth higher.
"You and me, baby," she mumbled, lips sliding along Brittany’s jaw. "You’ll always have me, okay?" she asked softly, sitting back and stroking her thumb over Brittany’s bottom lip. "I promise you, we’re going to get through everything together. And then…" She trailed off, grabbing Brittany’s left hand and brushing against her fiancee’s ring. "And then I’m going to marry you," she said, confident in their ability to make it through the steps to get back to them. "You and me forever," she repeated, leaning in to press their lips together.
Once Brittany was cleared out of the rehab, she walked out the two glass doors, not looking back. She needed to return to real life, she needed to return back to Santana. When she saw Santana, she really wanted to run, but Brittany knew she shouldn’t. Not on her knee, anyway. She smiled her first real smile in months when she was outside hugging Santana. “I’ve missed you too, Santana…” Brittany whispered, hugging her even closer. “I’ve missed you so much.”
Brittany really felt at home when Santana wrapped her arms around her from behind. She turned around and faced Santana and eagerly followed her to the couch and held her fiancee’s hand. She nodded. Brittany wanted it to be a fresh start. She didn’t want to feel depended on the drugs anymore. She wanted to start her life over again with Santana. “I know. I believe you, Tana.” I’m just so happy to be back here with you.” Brittany said as she shifted closer to Santana and rested her head on her shoulder.
Santana couldn’t help the way her heart fluttered in her chest as Brittany settled in next to her on the couch. It had been a nightly thing between them when Brittany had first moved her: snuggles on the couch, the TV playing softly in the background. It wasn’t until that moment, Brittany’s scent invading her nostrils, that she realized how much she had missed it lately. “You’re back now,” she responded, her hand running up and down Brittany’s arm soothingly. “The rest is just day by day, okay?”
A soft chuckle left her throat when Cat and Lord Tubbington both started meowing simultaneously. “Give me just a second,” she said softly, standing up and walking into the kitchen to feed them both. The soft sound of their food falling into the bowl reminded Santana of that night so many months before, when everything had fallen apart. Feeling a sudden wave of emotion overcome her, she walked back to the couch, straddling Brittany’s lap. Her arms wrapped around the blonde’s neck, her face instantly burying into her skin. “God, I missed you,” she choked out, her body shaking as the stress from the last few months poured out of her.
As Brittany finished signing the papers to be released out of rehab, she couldn’t help but feel nervous even though she was the happiest she had been in months. She actually did it. She conquered her drug addiction, sure Brittany was afraid of relapsing, but she was well enough to go back into the real world. Once the blonde finished signing her papers, she walked towards the glass doors of the rehab and ran to Santana enveloping her in a big hug. “I can’t wait to go home with you.” She whispered. Brittany hadn’t completely forgiven herself for everything she put her fiancee through, but she wanted things to be perfect between them again and she’d do anything to get that back.
Once they got back to their apartment, Brittany stepped in and sighed in relief. She knew it was going to take effort to get her relationship with Santana back to where it was, but Brittany would do whatever it took. She looked around and noticed that their apartment was set up a little different than before. “It looks really nice, San.” Brittany said as she walked further in. She turned and looked back at her fiancee and took her hand. “I’m really sorry…” She started. Brittany apologized a million times, but she knew the pain was still there and she wanted to fix it. “I won’t let this happen again. From now on you’re all I need.”
Santana waited nervously on the curb, palms sweaty. They’d told her to wait outside, that Brittany would be out momentarily, but Santana couldn’t help but worry that it had been taking so long. She glanced at her phone for probably the fiftieth time, leaning against the car, before the sound of the door opening reached her ears. Glancing up, she couldn’t help the way her heart stopped, lungs sucking in air and holding it there as she saw her fiancee. Brittany looked…different. They’d seen each other in visits, obviously, but there was a certain light about her fiance that hadn’t been there when she was still in rehab. Now that she was outside, Santana could see it again - that little ball of joy that Brittany always carried around. The next thing she knew, her arms were full of long, leggy blonde. She buried her face in Brittany’s neck, breathing her in, tears stinging at her eyes. “God, I’ve missed you,” she mumbled into Brittany’s neck, not wanting to move from that spot. “Let’s get you home, okay?”
Once they were inside, Santana took Brittany’s coat, sliding it off and hanging it by the door. Out of instinct, she slid in behind her fiance, arms wrapping around her middle as she rested her chin on Brittany’s shoulder. A quick glance around the apartment reminded her of everything that had changed in the last two weeks. She’d read somewhere that a new environment was a key factor in avoiding relapse, and while she couldn’t exactly afford a new apartment, the new furniture and arrangement really made the place look brand new. “It’s a fresh start,” she murmured in Brittany’s ear, before the other girl turned around to face her. “Hey,” she said quietly, Brittany’s hand pulling her own in between them, where she squeezed lightly. “I mean it: fresh start.” She had forgiven Brittany so long ago, and was ready for them to move forward with their lives. “Come here,” she said softly, pulling the girl to the couch and settling down into it, turning sideways so that she was facing her. “What happened before is in the past. I’m not going to forget it, of course, but I know-” she paused, feeling her throat get thick “I know things are going to be better now. We’re both going to be better because of this. Okay? I promise.”
Yeah because it’s really cute when you get jealous
Whatever you say, babe.
You do get all the cuddles. He gets them when you’re not with me so he’s pretty jealous of you.
Well, I guess he’s just gonna be really jealous from now on. Sound good to you?
He doesn’t hate you I promise. He’s jealous because you usually get more cuddles than him.
That’s because the cuddles are mine. All of ‘em.
I know it hasn’t. It sucked being away from home because I missed being with you. Why’s Lord Tubbington being a jerk? Did you forget to feed him?
Well, you’re home now, so it’s okay. Everything’s okay. No, of course I fed him. He’s just a pain in the ass and hates me.
Oh. That’s a good thing. I was kinda nervous too. It’s so nice being back home with you.
I know, Britt. I’m so glad you’re here. It hasn’t been the same without you. And Lord T has been a jerk since I brought him from Ohio.
Oh.. Why are you nervous?
Good nervous, babe. Nervous-excited.
